Being a Newbie, and with a few "starts and stops" i can say I am starting to "drink it all in"and spend the time and money and learn all I can about trapping, fur handling and ALL that goes with it. I really enjoy the historical aspect...

There is a lot to be learned from the pics and the history of trapping. There are high points and low points in trapping history! But in the new age of trapping so many improvements in equipment and supplies has made it a lot easier and very beneficial to our target animals. History teaches us lessons that need to be learned!

Get a load off this dude. Deerskin coat and pants. Embroidered with porcipine quills and moosehide mocassins. He probably paid a Cree Indian $20 to make this get up and it would cost $1500 today. Looks like he is posing in a photography studio and was actually an accountant from Akron, Ohio..... Attachments:

If you go to the old Hunter, Trader, Trapper magazine site and read the letters sent in by trappers and hunters in the early 1900's they discuss the need for game laws and seasons. Back then there were none. They realized that if something wasn't done there would be no resources at all. It's a lot of reading but interesting. I love the ads for the fur houses and supply companies.

There were doctor and lawyers even back then LOL Yep, and they often worked on ther barter system! I wish we were back in the old days. Course that's easy to say with my gas fireplace AND wood stove going, my big screen TV, my surround sound, my computer, my Mr. Coffee, et.

I love the ads for the fur houses and supply companies. I down loaded a bunch of HT&T and FF&G. I can read them for hours. Some of them guys trapped year round and sold unprime at a cut rate. Editors and writers were in favor of seasons to avoid taking unprime fur and encouraged the readers not to trap in the summer in the name of conservation. These magazines are large files of 95Mg so I can't post or email. I just love the adventures of Peter Unprime. He is a dandy. Attachments:

Mentions silver and white fox. Says there are $40K in furs. Wonder what that would equate to with inflation. My guess is, all factors considered, you guys are making LESS than they did 100 years ago.
