This is how I mount the spring and weaken the spring...
First... 1 1/2 conduit 5" long(I prefer 1 1/2 square tubing), 3/8 bolt 2 1/2" long, 2 nuts, flat washer and my chain set up.
I use a 3/4" long piece of 3/4 conduit for the swivel at the trap. Drill a hole in the center put a j hook in and fasten your chain.
Put in vise (i clamp mine down by the head of the bolt & let the trap body lay on top of vice) and mount the spring...
