This is how I mount the spring and weaken the spring... First... 1 1/2 conduit 5" long(I prefer 1 1/2 square tubing), 3/8 bolt 2 1/2" long, 2 nuts, flat washer and my chain set up.   I use a 3/4" long piece of 3/4 conduit for the swivel at the trap. Drill a hole in the center put a j hook in and fasten your chain.  Put in vise (i clamp mine down by the head of the bolt & let the trap body lay on top of vice) and mount the spring...

Now stick a screwdriver down in between the coil and the trap body.. this is not necessary but it makes things easier...  Hold the spring arm down and hit the coil with a hammer to bend the spring..

Let off the spring arm and see what angle its setting at.. I like mine at about a 45 degree angle  Then repeat on the other side

different rake springs are different angles and tension. Mine were too weak so I had to do some tweeking. Good info....
